Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market trading lower on Thursday morning

Lisbon, Aug. 27, 2026 (Lusa) - The benchmark Portuguese stock market index, the PSI, remained in negative territory, on Thursday morning, continuing the trend seen at the opening, in line with the broader European market.

At 09:45 in Lisbon, the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was down 0.3% at 9,417.91 points, with 11 stocks in the red and five in positive territory.

The biggest fallers were led by Galp, which was down 1.61% to €20.81, at a time when the price of a barrel of Brent crude was down 0.59% to $87.30.

Posting losses of over 0.5% were REN (-0.98% to €3.53), CTT (-0.61% to €6.51) and Jerónimo Martins (-0.55% to €18.06).

Sonae fell by 0.49% to €2.02 and NOS by 0.44% to €4.93.

Shares with losses of 0.25% or less included Navigator (-0.25% to €3.25), Semapa (-0.24% to €20.60), Altri (-0.21% to €4.72), EDP (-0.15% to €4.69) and Corticeira Amorim (-0.14% to €6.99).

At the other end of the scale, gains were led by Mota-Engil, which rose 1.9% to 4.73 euros.

Following this construction firm were Ibersol, which rose 0.77% to €10.46, EDP Renewables, which rose 0.43% to €13.87, Teixeira Duarte, up 0.42% to €0.48, and BCP, which climbed 0.22% to €1.11.

European stock markets were generally trending downwards today, whilst awaiting the publication of the European Central Bank (ECB) minutes and the central bank meeting in Jackson Hole.

The annual central bank meeting in Jackson Hole, in the US, begins today and will feature a speech on Friday by Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Kevin Warsh.

During the morning, gold and silver rose to $4,598.36 and $68.46 per ounce, representing increases of 0.17% and 0.51% respectively.

Bitcoin, meanwhile, was trading at $78,803.95, following a 0.46% rise, whilst the euro was quoted at $1.1657.
