ANSA - Post-holiday return looms, motorway system braced for heaviest annual traffic

ANAS says 25 million vehicle movements expected

Countless Italians are set to return from their traditional August holidays and this weekend the Italian motorway system is braced for its usual dose of heaviest traffic year-round.
According to estimates from the ANAS (motorway company) Road Mobility Observatory, from tomorrow until Sunday, August 30, there will be over 25 million vehicle movements on the roads and highways of the FS Group company.
Viabilità Italia has announced red warnings for tomorrow afternoon, Friday, August 28, the morning of Saturday, August 29, and the afternoon of Sunday, August 30.
A significant increase in travel from holiday resorts to major urban centers is expected throughout Italy.
The heavy vehicle transit ban is in effect on Saturday, August 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday, August 30, from 7:00 a.m.to 10:00 p.m.

To address the increased traffic, ANAS announced that it has increased staff commitments nationwide and reduced the number of construction sites.
Until September 7, 1,175 construction sites will be closed or suspended, representing 83% of the 1,414 active sites.
ANAS CEO Claudio Andrea Gemme urged all drivers to plan their journeys, obey speed limits, and behave prudently and respectfully towards other road users.
A few extra minutes on the road, he emphasized, won't change your day; a bad driving decision, however, can have very serious consequences.
