Luanda, July 30, 2026 (Lusa) - Rail services from Luanda to the provinces of Cuanza Norte and Malanje resumed on Thursday, eight days after Luanda Railways suspended them following the derailment of a gas train.

A press release from the Luanda Railway stated that services had resumed following the completion of repair work in Cuanza Norte.

The first train is scheduled to depart from Musseques station in Luanda on Friday, bound for Malanje station, carrying gas tankers.

According to the statement, the second train, hauling six general freight wagons, will depart from Lucala station, bound for the Angolan capital.

«Rail services have been restored across the entire Luanda Railway network,» the statement said.

The accident occurred on 22 July and involved a train of 10 empty tank wagons from Malanje station that derailed, with one of the wagons also derailing; everyone remained safe.

At the time, the Luanda Railway cited the severe state of disrepair of the 215-kilometre section between the towns of Zenza do Itombe and Cacuso as the probable cause of the derailment.
