NNA - Lebanon’s National Commission for Lebanese Women, chaired by First Lady Nehmat Aoun, held the first meeting of the national steering committee overseeing implementation of the country’s second action plan for UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.
The committee brings together senior officials from ministries, public administrations, and military and security institutions. The plan was developed through consultations with government bodies, civil society and international organisations, in partnership with UN Women and with support from Finland’s Foreign Ministry.
Aoun said the meeting marked the transition from planning to implementation and called for the plan’s objectives to be integrated into public policies, sectoral programmes and the daily work of state institutions.
She said women’s participation in decision-making, conflict prevention, crisis response, peacebuilding and reconstruction was essential to stability and inclusive development.
The committee reviewed the plan’s priorities and implementation mechanisms before adopting its annual work program.
