The euro is up 0.14% against the dollar, trading at $1.1415 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.
The market is paying particular attention to corporate earnings reports, notably those from Banco Santander in Spain today, which posted an attributable profit of €8.97 billion in the best first half of its history, up 31% on the same period in 2025, including a capital gain of €1.895 billion from the sale of its Polish subsidiary.
The stock markets are also keeping a close eye on the start of the ECB meeting, which will almost certainly decide on Thursday to keep interest rates at 2.25% after the 25-basis-point rise approved at the previous meeting in June, whilst analysts believe there will certainly be a further rise at the next meeting in September.
Another point of interest for the markets during this session remains the situation of uncertainty in the Middle East, following the eleventh consecutive night of US strikes against Iran, which has pushed the price of a barrel of Brent crude up by more than 2.6% to over $93.
The price of Brent crude, the European benchmark, for September delivery, rose by 2.68% to $93.42.
