Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Pump prices expected to rise five to 12 cents a litre next week

Lisbon, July 17, 2026 (Lusa) - The price per litre of diesel is expected to rise by 12 euro-cents, that of petrol by five euro-cents next week, should the current trend continue, according to ANAREC’s estimate provided to Lusa.

Based on current figures from the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) and taking into account forecasts of price movements based on Thursday’s market close, the average price of regular 95 petrol is expected to rise to €1.965 per litre, whilst regular diesel is expected to reach €1.973 per litre.

The final average will only be confirmed at the end of the day and may still change depending on developments in international oil prices, whilst the final price at the pump may vary by petrol station, brand, and location.

Following an initial rise due to the war in Iran, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, fuel prices fell during the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.

However, with the resumption of the conflict, recent weeks have seen a reversal of this trend, and, in line with the rise in oil prices, fuel prices have also risen.

At 10.20 in Lisbon, the price of a barrel of Brent crude for September delivery was up 1.40% to $85.42. At around the same time last week, a barrel was trading at close to $76.
