Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market down with Teixeira Duarte, Mota-Engil dropping over 2.2%

Lisbon, May 18, 2026 (Lusa) – The Lisbon stock market traded lower on Monday, with Teixeira Duarte and Mota-Engil falling 2.51% to €0.41 and 2.25% to €4.70. Around 9:30 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) maintained its opening trend and dropped 0.30% to 9,006.06 points. Nine companies fell, five rose, and one remained unchanged (EDP at €4.28).

The shares of the two construction companies were followed by Semapa, CTT, and BCP, which slipped 1.96% to €22.55, 1.82% to €6.20, and 1.52% to €0.92.

Corticeira Amorim, Jerónimo Martins, and REN lost value, dropping 0.86% to €6.92, 0.76% to €18.27, and 0.71% to €3.49 respectively.

Navigator and Sonae retreated 0.66% to €3.33 and 0.10% to €1.92.

Conversely, Ibersol, Galp, and EDP Renováveis climbed 0.86% to €11.70, 0.63% to €19.85, and 0.52% to €13.66.

The other two companies trading in positive territory were Altri (0.20% to €5.06) and NOS (0.09% to €5.29).

Outside the main PSI index and at the same hour, Martifer fell 8.23% to €2.23 after 30,063 shares traded for a total value of €68,763. The drop coincided with the launch of Visabeira's public takeover bid (OPA) for the company.

The takeover offer runs until 3 June and offers a consideration of €2.057 per share.

Major European stock markets opened lower on Monday, dragged down by sovereign debt and a new surge in oil prices, with Brent exceeding $110 per barrel.

Meanwhile, as negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain stalled, Brent Crude, the European benchmark for July delivery, rose 1.35% to $110.74. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for July delivery, the US benchmark, climbed 1.64% to $102.68.

The Brent price reached $112.00 overnight.

The yield on the German 10-year bond rose to 3.186% in the debt market, the highest since 2011, after closing at 3.166% in the previous session.

The euro was slightly weaker, dropping 0.08% to $1.1634 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.

US President Donald Trump said that Iran is running out of time to renew the truce in place since early April, amid renewed threats of fresh attacks.

In Lisbon, Dow Jones and Nasdaq futures pointed to retreats of 0.61% and 0.38% respectively.
