TIRANA, May 13 /ATA/ - A photographic exhibition titled “Albania 1921
- Eugène Pittard”, featuring rare images of early 20th-century Albania, opened in the coastal city of Durres on Wednesday.
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Parliament Speaker Klodiana Spahiu and Swiss Ambassador to Albania Ruth Huber.
Organised in cooperation between the Swiss embassy in Tirana and FotoKlub Durres, the exhibition offers a visual journey through photographs taken by Swiss academic and anthropologist Eugène Pittard and his wife, Hélène Pittard.
During trips across Albania in 1921 and 1924, the Pittards documented daily life, towns, villages, landscapes and local traditions, capturing a unique portrait of the country during a formative period of its modern history.
Through their lens, the exhibition presents authentic testimonies of Albania’s historical and cultural identity, preserved in photographs of significant historical and anthropological value.
In her remarks at the opening, Spahiu described the initiative as an important contribution to promoting Albania’s historical memory and cultural heritage, and thanked the organisers for bringing the exhibition to the public in Durres.
