Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Montenegro says inflation is rising but no cause for alarm yet

Beja, Portugal, April 30, 2026 (Lusa) – Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said on Thursday that the government knows the inflation rate has risen and that "the cost of living is increasing", which is concerning but "not yet a cause for alarm."

During a visit to the 42nd Ovibeja agricultural fair in Beja, where the cabinet meeting is taking place on Thursday, he told journalists about the rise in the inflation rate, as reported by Statistics Portugal (INE).

According to the flash estimate released on Thursday by INE, the inflation rate accelerated to 3.4% in April, 0.7 percentage points higher than the previous month, driven once again by fuel prices.

"We are all concerned and apprehensive, but it is not yet a cause for alarm; it is not worth anticipating problems that we can still avoid," he said.
