This year’s theme, “Together for Health – Stand with Science”, underscores the importance of evidence-based choices at individual, community and national levels.
World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April to mark the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948, symbolising the start of global cooperation in public health. In Croatia, health institutions, public health services, local authorities and civil society organisations are participating to highlight prevention, service accessibility and science-based decision-making as key to building a resilient society.
In Zagreb, the Croatian Institute of Public Health and the Ministry of Health hosted a public health event at Zagreb's Lake Jarun, offering free preventive screenings, including blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI measurements, as well as optional tests like lipid panels. The event also featured educational booths on physical, mental and sexual health and alcohol harm prevention, a children’s activity course and a community lounge. Medical experts will provide individual health advice throughout the day.
Another public health initiative took place at the city's Ban Josip Jelačić square, organised by the City Health Office and local health institutions, offering screenings and consultations, including cardiovascular risk assessment, diabetes counselling, allergy testing, spirometry, body composition analysis, carbon monoxide measurement and guidance on mental health and smoking cessation.
The Croatian Association for HIV and Viral Hepatitis (HUHIV) also contributed, offering testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, individual counselling, risk assessment, psychosocial support and connection to healthcare services at the HUHIV Checkpoint in Zagreb.
