Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes flat as Europe remains in the ‘red’

Lisbon, April 7, 2026 (Lusa) – The Lisbon stock market closed flat on Tuesday, with the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) falling 0.03% to 9,366.70 points, weighed down by falls of over 1% in construction firms Teixeira Duarte and Mota-Engil. Out of the 16 companies listed on the national benchmark, eight ended the day in negative territory, six saw gains, and two remained unchanged, in a session in which the PSI hit levels not since June 2008.

Weighing on the national benchmark index were two listed companies linked to the construction sector and Jerónimo Martins.

Teixeira Duarte fell by 1.79% to €0.44, while Mota-Engil dropped 1.74% to €4.64. 

Meanwhile, the company that owns Pingo Doce fell 1.06% to €20.52.

Ibersol also saw losses of over 1%, falling 1.80% to €10.90.

In contrast, to prevent a sharper overall decline in the PSI, CTT rose 1.51% to €6.41, and REN gained 1.05% to €3.87.

Among the index’s "heavyweights," BCP bank shares saw a positive trend, climbing 0.83% to €0.87 per share.

In the other major European markets, Germany’s DAX fell by 1.06%, the UK’s FTSE 100 dropped by 0.84%, France’s CAC-40 lost 0.67%, and Spain’s IBEX-35 fell by 0.64%.
