ATA - INSTAT: Albanian businesses accelerate digitalization as online sales reach 31.3%

TIRANA, Sept 21  /ATA/ The digitalization of enterprises in our country recorded further progress during 2026, driven by increased adoption of online sales, cloud services, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems, and artificial intelligence, according to data published today by INSTAT.

According to INSTAT, 31.3% of enterprises with 10 or more employees sold products or services online during 2026, up from 28.1% in 2025.

Meanwhile, the share of turnover generated from online sales relative to total sales rose to 11.4%, up from 10.1% the previous year, marking an increase of 1.3 percentage points.

An increase was also recorded in the use of artificial intelligence. In 2026, 12.4% of enterprises used artificial intelligence systems, compared to 9% in 2025.

Cloud service usage rose to 35.3%, up from 33.9% the previous year, while 36.9% of enterprises used one or more Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software applications, compared to 31.1% in 2025.

The online presence of businesses has also expanded. In 2026, 62.9% of enterprises have a website, up from 61% in 2025, while social media usage reached 88.1%, an increase of 1.6 percentage points.

Almost all enterprises—99.5%—use computers with internet access for work purposes, while 38.3% of employees use computers with internet access in their work, up from 35.1% in 2025.

Another key indicator is the increase in internet speed. In 2026, 66.6% of enterprises use internet connection with download speeds over 100 Mbit/s, up from 50.4% the previous year.

According to enterprise size, all large businesses with over 250 employees have a website. Meanwhile, the adoption of artificial intelligence in this group grew from 24.8% in 2025 to 28.1% in 2026.

The largest growth in online sales was recorded by medium-sized enterprises with 50–249 employees, where the indicator surged from 14.2% in 2025 to 22.9% in 2026.

In terms of economic activity, online sales accounted for the highest share in telecommunications, computer programming, consulting, computer infrastructure, and other information services at 53.8%, followed by accommodation and food service activities at 52.7%.

As for ICT specialists, the highest percentages are recorded in publishing, broadcasting, content production, and distribution activities at 79.3%, and in telecommunications, computer programming, and other information services at 73.8%.
