Lisbon, March 12, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market is trading lower on Thursday morning, with Mota-Engil and BCP shares falling 1.88% to €4.69 and 1.78% to €0.82, respectively.
At around 9:15 a.m. in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Share Index) was holding its opening trend and falling 0.56% to 9,025.97 points, with nine companies down, five up and two maintaining their prices (Altri at €4.72 and Navigator at €3.33).
On Wednesday, the Mota-Engil group presented its strategic plan for 2026-2030, which forecasts an increase in turnover over the next five years from the current €5.3 billion to €9 billion.
Mota -Engil and BCP were followed by REN and Teixeira Duarte, which were down 1.30% to €3.80 and 0.63% to €0.47, as well as Sonae and EDP Renováveis, which were both falling 0.62% to €1.93 and €12.91.
The other three shares that were down were NOS (-0.57% to €5.26), EDP (-0.49% to €4.29) and Semapa (-0.45% to €22.15).
In the opposite direction, CTT shares led the gains, rising 1.31% to €6.94.
Following the same trend, Galp and Ibersol shares were rising 0.50% to €20.21 and 0.46% to €10.90.
Jerónimo Martins and Corticeira Amorim shares were up 0.28% to €21.66 and 0.16% to €6.36.
The main European stock markets opened lower again, following the trend at the close of the previous day, dragged down by the rise in oil prices, with a barrel once again exceeding US$100 early this morning.
The euro is weaker, falling to US$1.1554 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market, compared to US$1.1567 on Wednesday and US$1.1980 on 27 January, a new high since June 2021.
In a session in which both the macroeconomic and corporate agendas are very light, the conflict in the Middle East, centred on a series of attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and its impact on oil prices, will be the main reference point for investors.
At this time, the price of Brent crude oil, the benchmark in Europe, for May delivery is up 4% to US$95.68, and West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the benchmark in the US, for April delivery is up 3.7% to US$90.49 per barrel.
Natural gas for April delivery on the TTF in the Netherlands is up 2.9% to €51.46 per megawatt-hour (MWh).
Precious metals, meanwhile, are posting moderate gains, with gold up 0.17% to US$5,185.51 and silver up 1.6% to US$87.1459.
Wall Street closed mixed on Wednesday with slight changes, and futures are currently pointing to declines of 0.64% for the Dow Jones and 0.49% for the Nasdaq.
On the US agenda today, the Department of Commerce will release the number of housing starts in the country for January.
It is very important that this figure increases from current levels so that supply increases and prices, which currently remain high, can be reduced, preventing access to housing for many new buyers, according to analysts at Link Securities quoted by Efe.
In the debt market, yields on 10-year German bonds are down to 2.930%, from a more than one-year high of 2.931% on Wednesday.
