Lisbon, Feb. 25, 2026 (Lusa) - Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento was admitted to Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon on Wednesday and is currently undergoing medical tests, an official hospital source told Lusa, without giving further details.

The same source ruled out the diagnosis of a stroke, which had been reported by some media outlets.

Joaquim Miranda Sarmento held the Finance portfolio in both governments led by Luís Montenegro, having been economic advisor to President Aníbal Cavaco Silva between 2012 and 2016.

The minister was born on 7 August 1978 in Lisbon and is now 47 years old.
