Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lisbon will be bartending capital of world with 9th bar show 14-15 May

Lisbon, April.16,2024(Lusa)- Lisbon will be the bartending capital of the world on 14 and 15 May at the ninth edition of the Lisbon Bar Show, which highlights Peru and features dozens of international professionals and a space dedicated to non-alcoholic drinks.
The meeting is, according to the organisers, "the biggest hospitality, restaurant and hotel event in Portugal" and promotes trends and novelties in the area of bartending and cocktails.
"It's not a fair for alcohol and bartenders, it's an event very much related to tourism, catering, hotels - in a word, hospitality," founder Alberto Pires told Lusa.
From Peru, he added, "people almost only know the 'pisco sour', but there are more drinks and spirits", which will be presented, along with Peruvian gastronomy, in the Sala Tejo of the Altice Arena.
Another novelty for this edition is the existence of a non-alcoholic drinks bar.
According to Alberto Pires, there are currently "many drinks brands that are introducing non-alcoholic spirits".
Although the concept "confuses a lot of people who aren't alcoholics", these drinks "contain all the flavours and aromas of the original drink, except that the alcohol has been removed" and so "you can drink them as much as you like", he explained.
Over two days, the event will feature around 140 exhibitors and various activities, such as the Vintage Cocktail Competition, the Mojito Forum, the Lisbon Bar Show Awards (which honour the best bartenders and bairmaids each year), the Brands Room, masterclasses and workshops.
The Iberian Bartenders Congress also returns, after its first edition last year, a networking space where brands, points of sale and bartenders can learn about new techniques and utensils from professionals in the field.
More than 30 speakers, including "some of the world's best in the bartending industry", come "from all four corners of the globe" - from Colombia to South Korea - for presentations never before given in Portugal.
Among others, the organisation highlights Aaron Diaz, Anxo Vila, David Blom, Demie Kim Tom Dyer or Mónica Berg, named the most influential person in the Bar World 100 by Drinks International, and, from Portugal, Ana Camacho, chef Kiko, Duarte Coelho, Fernão Gonçalves, Gonçalo Almeida, Paulo Ramos, Pedro Simões, Paulo Gomes, Sergio Padilla and Rodolfo Tristão.
In the previous edition, around 7,000 people visited the Lisbon Bar Show, a figure that the organisation hopes to repeat this year.
The initiative is dedicated to professionals in the sector, but is open to the general public. Tickets cost €29, on pre-sale until 10 May, and €39 on the days of the event.
