Brussels, Feb. 2, 2026 (Lusa) - In 2024, Portugal was the fourth Member State with the highest percentage of people unable to adequately heat their homes (14.5%), with the European Union (EU) average standing at 9.2%, according to data released by Eurostat on Monday.
The proportion of people unable to adequately heat their homes fell by 5.9 percentage points (p.p.) in Portugal, from 20.8% in 2023.
In the EU, the indicator improved by 1.4 p.p., from 10.6% in 2023.
The highest percentages of people unable to keep their homes adequately heated were observed in Bulgaria and Greece (both 19.0%), followed by Lithuania (18.0%), Spain (17.5%) and Portugal (14.5%).
In contrast, Finland (2.7%), Poland and Slovenia (both 3.3%) and Estonia and Luxembourg (both 3.6%) had the lowest percentages.
