NNA - President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received this afternoon at Baabda Palace, Head of Mission of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East, Major General Patrick Gauchat, along with the Organization’s Political Advisor, Maria Kantamigu, and Beirut office official, Col. Henri Ruotsalainen, who came on a farewell visit marking the end of General Gauchat’s mission in Lebanon and his transfer to another post.  

During the meeting, the work of UN truce observers in the countries where they are deployed, including Lebanon, was reviewed.

President Aoun thanked General Gauchat for the efforts he made during his tenure with his team, and wished him success in his new responsibilities.

President Aoun stressed the necessity of maintaining the presence of the truce observers in Lebanon, given the important role they play, especially as Lebanon has reaffirmed on more than one occasion its commitment to the truce agreement in all its provisions.
