Pollica, a famed seaside resort in the province of Salerno, is the queen of beaches for summer 2026, among the 30 resorts - 20 seaside and 10 lakeside - where Legambiente and Touring Club's Five Sails are now flying after their latest survey of Italy's best beaches.
They are the focus of the new guide "The Most Beautiful Sea," presented Friday in Venice during Venice Climate Week 2026 and on the occasion of World Environment Day.
On the podium are Baunei (Nuoro), which rose from fourth to second place, and Otranto (Lecce), which rose from tenth to third.
Sardinia is the region with the most Five Sails seaside resorts (6), followed by Puglia (5) and Tuscany (4).
Among lakes, Molveno in Trentino-Alto Adige leads the way, leading the region for award-winning locations, while in central Italy, Lake Scanno in Abruzzo (seventh place) retains its Five Sails status.
The award is given to those locations that focus on sustainable tourism and management, but are also adapting to the ongoing climate crisis by providing solutions and options for cooler holidays and exploring the surrounding area, the organizers explain.
The top ten seaside resorts also include Domus De Maria (Southern Sardinia), San Giovanni a Piro (Salerno), Nardò (Lecce), San Teodoro (Sassari), Santa Teresa di Gallura (Sassari), Cabras (Oristano), and Castiglione della Pescaia (Grosseto).
The dominance of southern Italy's regions is confirmed.
Among lakes, Lake Mis (Belluno) in Veneto and Lake Monticolo also stand out in the north.
