Lisbon, Jan. 29, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed in the red on Thursday, with the PSI falling 0.22% to 8,644.48 points, pressured mainly by declines in BCP and Jerónimo Martins, despite gains in Galp Energia.
The 16 companies included in the national benchmark index (the PSI - Portuguese Share Index) closed as follows: five in positive territory, 10 in negative territory and Ibersol unchanged, trading at €10.60, on a day when the PSI reached highs not seen since 2010.
Among the PSI's heavyweights, BCP bank fell back 1.31% to €0.90 per share, while retailer Jerónimo Martins fell 1.18% to €20.12.
Altri also suffered losses of more than 1%, falling 1.35% to €4.39, as did Teixeira Duarte, which lost 1.23% to €0.48 per share.
Bucking the trend and avoiding more significant losses for the PSI were Galp Energia, which rose 2.81% to €16.85, and Mota-Engil, which gained 1.37% to €4.44, on the day it announced that it had signed the concession contract for the construction, operation and maintenance of the Santos-Guarajá submerged tunnel in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, an investment of 7.8 billion reais (€1.2 billion).
Also today, the construction company announced that it had signed a contract with Trafigura, one of the world's largest commodity suppliers, for the marketing and sale of carbon credits, which provides for an initial payment of up to €83.5 million, or US$100 million).
Among the main European stock markets, Germany's DAX fell 2.07% and Spain's IBEX-35 fell 0.10%, while Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.17% and France's CAC-40 rose 0.06%.
