NNA - Floodwaters Inundate Homes, Farmland in North Lebanon After River Overflows

NNA - Floodwaters from the Nahr al-Kabir overflowed shortly after midnight, inundating agricultural land and several homes in parts of the Akkar Plain, following a sharp rise in water levels caused by the ongoing storm and heavy rainfall. The flooding caused significant material damage in the affected areas.

Residents appealed to the relevant ministries and authorities to address the root causes of the recurrent flooding through permanent solutions, foremost among them the construction of earthen embankments on the Lebanese side of the river to protect towns and farmland from repeated inundation.

Meanwhile, snowfall was reported on the high elevations of northern Akkar’s mountainous outskirts. Municipalities, in coordination with Civil Defense units and first-responder teams, announced a state of full preparedness and readiness to intervene if needed, in anticipation of any emergencies that may result from the prevailing weather conditions.
