Maputo, Dec. 12, 2025 (Lusa) - The governments of Mozambique and Italy have signed five new instruments to strengthen their partnership in the areas of justice, civil protection, digitalisation and development, the president of Mozambique announced, describing his visit to Italy as "a success".
"During this visit, five instruments were signed that will strengthen cooperation between Mozambique and Italy in the legal area, civil protection, the promotion of digitisation and the strengthening of development cooperation between our countries," Daniel Chapo said, in his assessment of the three-day visit to Italy.
In the information shared by the Mozambican Presidency on Friday, the Head of State also said that the visit was "a success" as all the previously established objectives were achieved, mentioning a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, with the prime minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, as well as a meeting with businesspeople and the Mozambican community residing in that country.
"It was a successful mission, which consolidates mutual trust and opens up new opportunities for our country," said Chapo, noting that the meeting with Giorgia Meloni highlighted the “excellent” cooperation relations between the two countries, pointing to a "growing trend" of Italian private investment in Mozambique.
"Mozambique is open to investment, is modernising and is committed to inclusive growth. We don't want temporary investors, we want permanent partners," said Daniel Chapo.
In his assessment, the president of Mozambique also highlighted his visit to the Sant'Egidio community, which is already part of Mozambique's history and "is in the hearts of Mozambicans, just like Italy and Rome."
Daniel Chapo thanked the community for the social and humanitarian support it has provided to those displaced by attacks by armed groups in Cabo Delgado and to vulnerable people.
"The Sant'Egidio community in Mozambique is not only about peace, but also humanitarian assistance, HIV and various projects for vulnerable people in Mozambique (...) Therefore, we no longer see the Sant'Egidio community as a one-off mediator, but as a long-term partner in the peace process in Mozambique," said the Mozambican statesman.
The three-day visit to Italy, between Tuesday and Thursday, is part of the 50 years of "friendship, solidarity and cooperation" between the two countries, with the president of Mozambique noting that the country "is ready for solid partnerships" that will bring "more prosperity for all".
