Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Benchmark index closes lower, driven down by 14%+ fall in Galp

Lisbon, Dec. 9, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed lower on Tuesday, with the PSI index falling 1.33% to 8,090.50 points, penalised by Galp, which fell more than 14% after reaching an agreement with Total on an oil exploration project.

Of the 16 companies listed on the PSI, nine fell, five rose, and Ibersol and REN remained unchanged at €10.10 and €3.28, respectively.

Leading the declines was Galp, which fell 14.68% to €14.79.

Galp announced today a partnership with TotalEnergies to exchange 40% in the PEL 83 area in Namibia for two other licences operated by the French multinational, which will take over the operation of this licence.

In a statement, Galp said it had chosen TotalEnergies as its partner to ‘jointly operate and develop the Mopane discovery through an asset swap’.

With this swap, Galp is giving up half of its stake in Petroleum Exploration Licence No. 83 (PEL 83).

Among the main declines in today's session are Altri, which fell 2.24% to €4.37, Teixeira Duarte, which fell 2.06 euros to €0.66, and Semapa, which lost 1.52% to €16.80.

Declines of less than 1% were seen in Mota-Engil (€4.68), Navigator (€3.04), CTT (€7.29), Corticeira Amorim (€6.43) and EDP (€3.83).

On the other hand, BCP led the gains, rising 1.72% to €0.86, followed by Sonae SGPS, which grew 1.28% to €1.59.

With gains of less than 1% were EDP Renováveis (€11.92), NOS (€3.76) and Jerónimo Martins (€20.02).

Elsewhere in Europe, Paris fell 0.69% and London 0.03%, while Frankfurt rose 0.49% and Madrid 0.13%.
