Lusa - Business News - Portugal: TAP cancelling flights for general strike day

Lisbon, Dec. 4, 2025 (Lusa) - TAP Air Portugal is cancelling flights on 11 December, the day of a general strike in Portugal, and is contacting passengers with alternatives, according to a notice on the airline's website.

"Due to the general strike in Portugal and to avoid travel constraints for its customers, TAP is cancelling flights on 11 December," it said.

According to TAP, "customers are being contacted with an alternative if their flight is cancelled," adding that "if passengers wish to proactively bring forward or postpone their flight on that day to the three days before or after, they can do so at no cost" on the TAP website and app or at travel agencies.

TAP has agreed on minimum services with several unions for that day.

The agreement announced by the Directorate-General for Employment and Labour Relations (DGERT) was with Sitava - Aviation and Airport Workers' Union, Sitema - Aircraft Maintenance Technicians' Union, SIMA - Metalworking and Related Industries Union and SNPVAC - National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel.

The carrier will operate three return flights to the Azores and two to Madeira, and one return flight to the following countries: Belgium, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau.

Three return flights to Brazil and two to the USA are also included.

The Civil Aviation Pilots' Union (SPAC) has said that it "will comply with the minimum services that may be established" during the general strike and has scheduled an extraordinary general meeting for Friday, so that its member pilots can decide whether to join the strike.
