Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Average wage increases 2.6% in real terms in Q3 - official

Lisbon, Nov. 14, 2025 (Lusa) - The average gross monthly wage per employee rose 5.3% to €1,615 in the third quarter, compared to the same period in 2024, but in real terms, taking inflation into account, it rose 2.6%, INE announced on Friday.

According to the employment statistics, published by Statistics Portugal (INE), both the regular and basic components of that pay rose by 5.4% to €1,366 and €1,279, respectively.

'In real terms, with reference to the change in the Consumer Price Index [inflation], the average total monthly gross remuneration increased by 2.6% and its regular and basic components both increased by 2.7%,' concluded the statistical authority.

These results cover 4.9 million jobs, corresponding to Social Security beneficiaries and Caixa Geral de Aposentações subscribers, 1.8% more than in the same period in 2024.

'In relation to the quarter ending in June 2025, there was an acceleration in prices (with year-on-year rates of change rising from 2.2% to 2.6%) and a slowdown in real wages (from 3.1% to 2.7% in the case of basic pay, for example),' the INE emphasised.

According to the organisation, compared to September last year, the average total monthly gross remuneration increased across almost every dimension of analysis, including the type of economic activity, company size, institutional sector, technological intensity, and knowledge intensity.

The biggest increases were seen in “agriculture, animal production, hunting, forestry and fishing” activities, with a 13% rise, in companies with five to nine employees (+6.5%), in the private sector (+5.4%), and in “high-tech industrial” companies (+7.9%).
