Lisbon, Oct. 30, 2025 (Lusa) - The second edition of the Tribeca Festival Lisbon begins on Thursday in various venues in Lisbon’s Beato district, with some film screenings already sold out and many talks with international and Portuguese figures from the entertainment industry.
Although there was a pre-opening on Wednesday, with the screening of the film “In the Hand of Dante” with director Julian Schnabel, the bulk of the festival’s programme takes place between today and Saturday.
One of the new features of this edition is the screening of films at the Teatro Ibérico, renamed “The Theater”, with a capacity for 165 people, and in the former church of the Convento do Beato, converted into an event space with 300 seats available, according to data from the organisation.
This is where previews are scheduled, some of which are already sold out, such as “Bugonia” by Yorgos Lanthimos, “Ritas”, a documentary by Oswaldo Santana and Karen Harley about Brazilian artist Rita Lee, “Honeyjoon” by Lilian T. Mehrel, and the Portuguese series “Lua Vermelha: Nova Geração” (Red Moon: New Generation).
"Eleanor the Great", Scarlett Johansson’s first feature film, the documentary "Are We Good", about comedian Marc Maron, with director Steven Feinartz in attendance in Lisbon, and the Portuguese films "Terra Vil" by Luís Campos and "A Memória do Cheiro das Coisas" by António Ferreira are also part of the film programme.
The Unicorn Factory Lisbon will host talks and podcast presentations, with the presence of actresses Kim Cattrall, Meg Ryan, Edie Falco and Veronica Falcón, and actors Giancarlo Esposito and Ed Westick, among others.
Producer and screenwriter Ava DuVernay was announced, but will not be present.
Director Augusto Fraga and some of the cast of the series “Rabo de Peixe”, actor Welket Bungué, musician Dino d’Santiago, comedians Guilherme Geirinhas and Ricardo Araújo Pereira, actress Daniela Ruah and presenter Catarina Furtado will also be present.
This year, the organisation promises a programme that is more open to the community and not just to those who are interested in or work in the entertainment industry.
At the Unicorn Factory Lisboa, in the free circulation areas, the organisation has a programme featuring gastronomy, live music and crafts, ending on Saturday with a performance by MXGPU, which brings together musicians Moulinex and GPU Panic.
The Tribeca Festival was founded in New York in 2001 by actor Robert De Niro and producer Jane Rosenthal as a meeting point for independent cinema and new talent, but it has evolved into a storytelling event focused on sharing stories in different formats.
In 2024, the festival took place for the first time in Europe, with the organisation choosing Lisbon as part of a strategy to expand the project, in partnership with the SIC television station, OPTO - both part of the Impresa group - and Lisbon city council.
According to the organisers, the budget for this second edition, including the amount of public support, will only be “shared” once the festival is over.
Of the two founders of the New York Tribeca festival, the presence of producer Jane Rosenthal has been confirmed.
