ALGIERS, 28 October 2025 (APS) - The new Ambassador of Sweden to Algeria, Anna Block Mazoyer, stated on Tuesday that Algeria is a key partner for Sweden, emphasizing the ongoing cooperation between the two countries across several sectors.
After presenting her credentials to the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as Sweden’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mazoyer highlighted in a statement "the depth of the historical ties" between the two countries, noting that "Algeria and Sweden will mark the 300th anniversary of their first peace, navigation, and trade agreements in 2029."
Algeria holds a special place in my heart," she said, recalling that she began her diplomatic career there 35 years ago.
Referring to international issues, the Swedish diplomat commended Algeria’s efforts "in favour of multilateralism and peace", notably pointing out its role within the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member."
"Sweden does not forget Algeria’s steadfast commitment within the UN system, a commitment that dates back to the struggle for independence," she stated.
As regards economy, she said that "many Swedish companies are already operating in the Algerian market, such as Volvo, Ericsson, AstraZeneca, and others," noting that trade relations between the two countries "fall within the framework of the Association Agreement between Algeria and the European Union (EU), as well as the Partnership for the Mediterranean, which opens up new prospects for cooperation based on the mutual interests of both parties."
Sweden will remain steadfast in its efforts, as Algeria is a key partner," she emphasized, further mentioning "bilateral cooperation in sectors such as energy transition, taxation, and local authorities."
The Swedish diplomat called these projects as "concrete and aimed at improving the daily lives of citizens."
