Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Eurobic clients accuse bank of doing nothing after they were defrauded

Lisbon, Oct. 20, 2025 (Lusa) - A group of 10 Eurobic/Abanca customers demonstrated in front of the bank's headquarters in Lisbon on Monday, accusing it of doing nothing after being defrauded of thousands of euros that they say were transferred without their authorisation.

The customers held up placards with phrases like “we trusted Eurobic/Abanca with our money, we were robbed” and “it was our money, it's your fault”.

According to what they told Lusa, the bank "washed its hands" claiming that it had complied with the procedures and the customers had given the transfer orders and also from the Bank of Portugal they have had no response to their complaints.

The customers have filed complaints with the courts and are waiting for the case to be dealt with by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to Elisabete Rebelo, who owns the company Rotunda Peças, when she made a transfer to her company's account on the Internet, she was surprised by what she was being asked to do, contacted her branch and was put in touch with a bank employee in Lisbon by a worker.

It was this employee who gave her instructions on how to proceed with the transfer and €85,000 left her company's account.

"The bank washes its hands. If I entered a fraudulent website, it was the bank that sent me there; it's the bank's responsibility. I pay them to keep my money and my personal data," she said.

This customer says that she currently knows 15 customers who were harmed at the same time (June/July of this year), but that she has information that tells her that hundreds of people were harmed, and said that the group will not stop there and is preparing more demonstrations.
