TIRANA, Oct 19 /ATA/ – Albania successfully hosted the FIDE World Youth Chess Championship for U14, U16, and U18 categories from October 3-16 in the coastal city of Durrës, drawing 1,300 participants.

Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted the event on social media on Saturday, noting that 730 young chess players from around 90 international federations competed, bringing talent, competition, and camaraderie to the country.

Rama described Albania as “the global home of youth chess,” adding that the championship strengthens the country’s profile as a venue for major international sporting events.
