Lisbon, Oct. 2, 2025 (Lusa) - Renewable energies supplied 57% of energy consumption in September, representing a 6.6% increase in production and a 2.2% rise in consumption, year-on-year, according to Adene, the Energy Agency.
In a statement, Adene said that, compared to September last year, total renewable electricity production increased by around 6.6%, "as a result of the increase in solar photovoltaic (27%), wind (2.2%) and biomass (1.2%)".
At the same time, hydro production fell by 1.3%.
In September, according to data from REN, "renewable production was broken down as follows: wind 25.4%, solar photovoltaic 14.4%, hydro 11.2% and biomass 6%".
Production from non-renewable sources - particularly natural gas - grew by 71.6% compared to September last year.
Although the import balance reached 26%, this figure "was around 22.8% lower than the same month last year".
In the same period, there was a 1.3% drop in hydroelectric production. Electricity production from non-renewable sources (essentially natural gas) increased by around 71.6% compared to September 2024.
As for natural gas, consumption in September rose by 17.8% year-on-year, with the USA being the only supplier.
Of the amount consumed, 32.9% was used to produce electricity, with the remainder being allocated to the conventional market.
