Lusa - Business News - Mozambique: Algeria hopes to cooperate in energy, mines

Maputo, Sept. 4, 2025 (Lusa) - Algeria expressed its interest on Thursday in cooperating with Mozambique in the economic sector, with a focus on energy, mines and natural gas, showing its willingness to support the country in its development projects.

"We are very happy to see the president [of Mozambique] here in Algeria to strengthen this relationship, especially the economic relationship. We are available and willing to contribute to Mozambique in various projects of great value in the field of energy, mining, renewable energies, and the development of natural gas," said Algeria's minister of mineral resources and energy, Mohamed Arkab.

The minister was speaking at the reception of the Mozambican delegation accompanying the working visit of the president of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, in which he emphasised that the two countries also intend to collaborate in other sectors, as part of the strengthening of bilateral relations, stressing their willingness to support the country in its development projects.

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo began a four-day working visit to Algeria on Wednesday, during which he will deepen bilateral relations between the two states, according to a statement from the Presidency.

According to the Presidency statement, the President will take part in the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair in Algiers, organised by the African Export and Import Bank (Afreximbank), which will run from today until the 10th with the aim of "boosting trade and investment in Africa".

"During his stay, President Daniel Chapo will reaffirm Mozambique's commitment to continental economic integration and to strengthening strategic partnerships in the field of trade and investment," the Presidency added.
