Praia, Sept. 4, 2025 (Lusa) - Two international airports in Cabo Verde remain certified for operations to the United States, following an assessment by the US Transportation Security Agency (TSA) in May, the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC) announced on Thursday.
"The purpose of the assessment was to revalidate the Last Point of Departure (LPD), an essential requirement for air operations to the United States," the AAC said in a statement.
The status ensures that the airports fulfil the international safety standards required by the United States, allowing direct flights to continue and reinforcing the confidence of passengers and airlines.
The assessment was carried out at the Amílcar Cabral international airport in Sal, Cabo Verde's main tourist island, and the Nelson Mandela airport in the country's capital.
According to the organisation, this result "reinforces Cabo Verde's international reputation and consolidates the country's image as a safe tourist destination".
The AAC also emphasised that there are currently 13 LPDs on the African continent, two of which are in Cabo Verde, highlighting the country's strategic importance in the regional aviation sector.
