Average spending by Italian families in 2025 (rpt 2025) increased by €239 to €22,144 per capita at 2025 prices, but is still far from the highs reached in 2007, when it was €22,334, Confcommercio said Wednesday on Istat data.
    "Imputed rent" for residential housing is also considered in consumption, it said.
    The retail association emphasized that over the last thirty years, there has been a surge in technology and leisure, while spending on food and energy has declined.
    Over the past three decades, per capita spending on computers and phones has seen a meteoric rise of nearly 3,000%.
