Lusa - Business News - Cabo Verde: Airline retstarts domestic flights after days of cancellations

Praia, Aug. 25, 2025 (Lusa) - Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde (TACV) announced on Monday the resumption of domestic flights, after days of "significant disruptions" that left passengers stranded on the islands, due to operational problems and limitations of the fleet that provides inter-island connections.

"Flight operations have resumed and we are working intensively to restore normality, ensuring that between today and tomorrow [Monday and Tuesday] we will transport the passengers who were stranded on the different islands," the company explained in a statement.

As immediate support measures, TACV has resorted to chartering boats through CV Interilhas, operating extraordinary routes between the island of Fogo and Santiago, and using Boeing aircraft to reinforce connections between São Vicente, Sal and the city of Praia.

The president of the Cabo Verde Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies, Marvela Rodrigues, quoted by Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV), warned of the repetition of these constraints, especially during busier periods.

"At the moment, especially this weekend, things have become more complicated. I received several calls from clients stranded in São Vicente, Sal and Boa Vista, with important programmes and appointments, with no news about when they would be leaving," she said.

Marvela Rodrigues also called for greater openness to private investment in air and sea transport for tourism, considering that the situation is harming tourists and the sector.

"We have nationals who live abroad and say they're not going to travel to Cabo Verde because they don't know if they're going to meet dates or leave the islands, which creates problems even with international connections," she added.

At the end of July, TACV also faced "significant challenges" caused by simultaneous breakdowns in two of the three planes in operation, which led to the cancellation and rescheduling of several inter-island connections.

The state-owned company, which was exclusively dedicated to international flights, took over domestic operations at the beginning of 2024 due to problems with the last concession for the service.
