Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market down 0.25% with BCP losing most ground

Lisbon, Aug. 22, 2025 (Lusa) - The Portuguese stock market was losing 0.25% to 8,000.16 points an hour after opening, amid a Europe mostly in positive territory and with BCP leading the losses and falling 1.43%.

At around 9.05am, of the 15 companies listed on the main index, eight were in the red, Ibersol and NOS were unchanged, and five were in positive territory.

On the losing side, BCP bank fell 1.43% to €0.79, followed by Jerónimo Martins (-0.93% to €21.22), CTT (-0.76% to €7.85), Corticeira Amorim (-0.76% to €7.85), Sonae (-0.45% to €1.33), EDP Renováveis (-0.19% to €10.43) and REN (-0.16% to €3.03).

Still in negative territory was EDP, down 0.08% to €3.85.

On the other hand, Navigator was the company that saw its shares rise the most, up 1.32% to €3.38.

In second place was Altri, which gained 0.78% to €5.14, followed by construction company Mota-Engil, which rose 0.47% to €5.36.

Also in positive territory were shares in Semapa (+0.45% to €17.96) and Galp Energia (+0.36% to €16.50).

The Lisbon stock exchange began the session down 0.21% to 8,003.74 points, after having closed higher on Thursday, with the PSI rising 0.43% to 8,020.36 points, closing above 8,000 points for the first time since April 2011.

The main European markets opened down today and just over an hour after opening were mixed, with London (FTSE 100) and Frankfurt (DAX) registering losses of 0.15% and 0.08% respectively.

Paris (CAC 40), Madrid (IBEX35) and Milan (FTSE MIB) continued to post gains of 0.14%, 0.19% and 0.18% respectively.

The fall in German Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter was sharper than initially estimated, due to industry's problems in the face of US tariffs, the Destatis statistics office announced today.
