The first gorilla in 50 years has been born in Italy.
The baby gorilla was born at the Fasano Zoosafari, in the province of Brindisi.
"This birth is not only a unique event, the first in Italy in almost 50 years, but also represents," reads a social media post on the facility's official page, "a beacon of hope on the path toward conservation and protection of the species." Mother Tamani "cuddles and protects him with her immense love, under the watchful eye of father Nasibu," the zoo and safari park said.
Just over a year ago, two baby gorillas were born at the London and Prague zoos.
