Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market trading up on Wednesday morning, Mota-Engil rising 6%

Lisbon, Aug. 6, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading higher on Wednesday morning, with Mota-Engil shares rising 6.19% to €5.10.

At around 9.55 a.m. in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was holding on to its opening trend and rising 0.26% to 7,730.49 points, with eight stocks rising, six falling and one remaining unchanged (CTT at €7.43).

Mota-Engil shares were followed by BCP, Altri and EDP Renováveis, which were up 0.93% to €0.74, 0.83% to €4.87 and 0.69% to €10.26.

More moderately, Sonae, Galp and NOS shares were gaining 0.47% to €1.28, 0.34% to €16.42 and 0.14% to €3.70.

Navigator shares were rising 0.06% to €3.14.

Going the other way, REN, Ibersol and Jerónimo Martins shares were down 0.50% to €2.97, 0.41% to €9.70 and 0.38% to €21.20.

Shares in Corticeira Amorim, EDP and Semapa were also below the waterline, falling 0.26% to €7.72, 0.21% to €3.72 and 0.11% to €17.46.

The main European stock markets opened with moderate gains, despite US President Donald Trump threatening to impose tariffs of 35% on the European Union if it does not invest US$600 billion in the US economy.

With few relevant macroeconomic references so far — only retail sales data for the eurozone — the market's focus will be on possible tariffs and the final stage of earnings reports.

On Tuesday, Wall Street closed lower.

Brent crude oil, the benchmark in Europe, for October delivery, is trading at US$68.32, up from US$67.64 on Tuesday, after OPEC+ decided over the weekend to increase oil supply by 547,000 barrels per day from 1 September.

The euro was weaker, falling to US$1.1576 on the Frankfurt currency market, against US$1.1583 on Tuesday and the new high since 15 September 2021 of US$1.1789 on 2 July.
