Pombal, Portugal, July 29, 2025 (Lusa) - A fire that broke out early Tuesday afternoon forced the closure of the northbound carriageway of the  main A1 motorway between Lisbon and Porto between Leiria and Pombal, a source from the National Republican Guard told the Lusa news agency.

According to the same source, the closure occurred at around 1:45 p.m. and the alternative route for traffic on the A1 between Leiria and Pombal is the complementary route 2 (IC2).

The forest fire broke out at 12:53 p.m. in the town of Pinheirinho, in the municipality of Pombal, a source from the Leiria Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command told Lusa.

At 2:00 p.m., 64 firefighters were at the scene, supported by 15 vehicles and two aircraft.
