APS - UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4): Rezig presents Algeria's experience in Saharan agriculture

ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, presented on Sunday Algeria’s experience in Saharan agriculture during his participation, as requested by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) held from July 27 to 29 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, said the ministry in a statement.

Algeria's pioneering experience in Saharan agriculture was presented at a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the summit titled "Saharan agriculture in Algeria: innovations for food security and resilient ecosystems."

In his speech, Minister Rezig reaffirmed Algeria’s ongoing commitment to achieving food security by developing an innovative and sustainable agricultural model in Saharan zones, leveraging local resources and modern technology.

He emphasized that Algeria’s approach is a successful model of turning environmental challenges into development opportunities.

Under the vision of the President, Algeria aims to make the Great South a strategic agricultural hub by supporting investors, facilitating measures, and promoting scientific research in soil, water, and Saharan climate domains.

He stressed that Saharan agriculture is not just an alternative production method but part of a comprehensive strategy to preserve ecological balance, combat desertification, and create sustainable living conditions in vulnerable areas.

The meeting was attended by representatives from international organizations, ministers, and experts in food security and climate change, who praised Algeria’s experience as a promising initiative that could inspire countries with similar climates, particularly in Africa.
