ALGIERS - The Senior Advisor to the US president for Africa, Arab affairs, and the Middle East, Massad Boulos, stated on Sunday in Algiers that the United States attaches "great importance" to its relationship with Algeria and aspires to collaborate in strengthening peace and stability across Africa.
"I have the immense honor of being here in Algeria on behalf of U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to strengthen the partnership between our two countries," Boulos told reporters after meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the Presidential Palace.
He noted that the meeting with President Tebboune provided an opportunity to "reaffirm the deep ties uniting the United States and Algeria."
"We reiterated our strong commitment to enhancing our relations in trade, security, and other sectors," he continued."
I also shared President Trump’s vision of cooperation in service of common interests and peace, including efforts to combat terrorism, secure borders, and promote fair trade for the benefit of Americans and Algerians, within a framework of mutual respect and dialogue. I listened to President Tebboune’s views on the critical challenges facing Africa and the broader region, as well as the many opportunities available to us," Boulos told the press.
In this regard, Boulos emphasized that the U.S. aspires to "make greater joint efforts to address challenges in the Sahel and work together to promote peace and stability.
"The U.S. official also thanked Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, who had received him earlier in the day."
We greatly appreciate our ongoing dialogue as we work together to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges, particularly during Algeria’s term on the United Nations Security Council," he said.
Noting that Algeria and the United States "share a common interest in a more peaceful and stable world," Boulos said he discussed with President Tebboune and Minister Attaf "the immense potential for strengthening trade cooperation in the energy sector and other areas."
Boulos concluded his statement by describing his visit to Algeria as "very fruitful" and expressed his desire to "explore avenues of cooperation for a bright and peaceful future."
