Lisbon, July 18, 2025 (Lusa) - Worten is going to build Portugal’s largest logistics centre in Castanheira do Ribatejo, which will bring “efficiency gains” and create new jobs, with inauguration scheduled for 2028.
According to Pedro Chainho, Head of Supply Chain at Worten, speaking to Lusa, this platform, dubbed Worten Orders Park, comes at a “demanding” time for logistics, with an increase in the complexity of operations, particularly with the management of various geographical areas, and will enable “efficiency gains and responsiveness”.
Construction begins on Friday and will continue over the next two years, in partnership with Merlin Properties, which owns and will be responsible for the construction, with the “transition of all people and equipment to the new, larger centre” planned.
This new site will have 350 people working on a regular basis when it is completed, a number that will be higher during peak demand periods, particularly in summer, Christmas and Black Friday.
In addition, the organisation also plans to create different types of jobs, particularly related to the technological area of this new platform.
“There are many engineers here, many areas of engineering, many areas of process flows, which also makes the place more attractive to work in because the logistics are different and more engaging, thus creating value for the type of employees who will be working at Orders Park,” pointed out Pedro Chainho.
We plan to invest in technological innovation, specifically by acquiring a ‘sorter’-a machine that enables the automation, classification, and separation of orders, capable of processing up to 10,000 orders per hour, thereby delivering faster.
The company envisions that customers will be able to order “as late as possible”, i.e., that they can place an order until 12 a.m. and receive the item the next day at home, at the office, or wherever they are, he said.
They are therefore “investing heavily here,” said the manager, while keeping the exact figures confidential, but assuring that “there will be significant investment that will set us apart.”
This platform will supply all retail stores in the country, as well as Spain, both mainland and the Canary Islands, and international businesses in the regions where the brand is already present.
In terms of sustainability, “We will install a renewable solar structure to minimise the impact of logistics operations, water reuse systems and also improve the thermal comfort of the teams”.
Worten Orders Park will cover 115,000 square metres, which Worten will occupy in phases, with the infrastructure scheduled to open in 2028.
