TIRANA, July 11 /ATA/ The Vjosa River, known as “the last untamed river in Europe,” is becoming an increasingly popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, and observers, as well as extreme sports enthusiasts, thanks to the opportunity to go rafting in its crystal-clear waters.
Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro posted on social media a series of photos showing young people experiencing the thrill of rafting along the Vjosa River, as they followed the path of this enchanting waterway in southern Albania.
Flowing freely through unspoiled landscapes, the Vjosa River winds its way across a protected area featuring canyons, caves, and abundant biodiversity, providing a unique and unforgettable experience for those who venture to explore it by rafting.
In the Përmet region, rafting experiences are organized with a focus on sustainability, complemented by eco-conscious lodging options like glamping sites. These initiatives provide visitors with both thrilling adventures and the chance to connect with nature in a respectful and harmonious way.
In April 2025, the scenic shores of the Vjosa River hosted the National Rafting Championship, drawing athletes and visitors from all over Albania. The event acted as a catalyst for advancing the promotion of active and sustainable tourism in the southern region of the country.
Rafting on the Vjosa is more than just a sport; it is an immersive experience that blends excitement with natural beauty, while simultaneously contributing to the economic development of local communities and enhancing Albania’s international profile as an alternative tourist destination.
