The trade deficit for the period of January-May 2025 recorded an increase of 2.3%, compared to the same period of 2024, going from €3,180.5 mn to €3,256 mn, according to provisional data provided on Thursday by the Statistical Service.
Total imports of goods in January–May 2025 amounted to €5,372 mn as compared to €4,725.6 mn in January–May 2024, recording an increase of 13.7%.
Total exports of goods in January-May 2025 were €2,116 mn compared to €1,545.1 mn in January-May 2024, registering an increase of 36.9%.
According to provisional data for May 2025, total imports of goods in May 2025 were €1,001.8 mn as compared to €1,060.1 mn in May 2024, recording a decrease of 5.5%.
Imports from other EU Member States were €596.3 mn and from third countries €405.5 mn, compared to €629.4 mn and €430.7 mn respectively in May 2024. Imports in May 2025 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with total value of €4.6 mn as compared to €88.1 mn in May 2024.
Total exports of goods in May 2025 were €319.7 mn as compared to €343.6 mn in May 2024, recording a decrease of 7%.
Exports to other EU Member States were €109.2 mn and to third countries €210.5 mn, compared to €94 mn and €249.6 mn respectively in May 2024. Exports in May 2025 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with total value of €6.8 mn as compared to €68.6 mn in May 2024.

Total imports of goods amounted to €1,161.7 mn in April 2025 as compared to €1,106.8 mn in April 2024, recording an increase of 5%.
Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €277 mn in April 2025 as compared to €221.3 mn in April 2024, recording an increase of 25.2%.
Domestic exports of industrial products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €262.5 mn in April 2025 compared to €205.6 mn in April 2024.
Domestic exports of agricultural products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €13.4 mn in April 2025 compared to €14.5 mn in April 2024.
Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €113.7 mn in April 2025 as compared to €131.1 mn in April 2024, recording a decrease of 13.3%.
