ATA - 40,000 visitors at Onufri Museum, with Poles leading the numbers

TIRANA, July 5 /ATA/ The Onufri Iconographic Museum is located in the heart of Berat Castle and welcomes visitors from all around the world every day.

The Director of the Berat Museum Center, Miklor Pasku, told ATA that the Onufri Iconographic Museum was visited by 40,000 people in the first six months of the year.

Director Pasku highlighted that even during the hot summer days, the majority of visitors are international tourists. Polish visitors make up the largest group, followed by tourists from France, Italy, the USA, and Asia.

The Onufri Museum is a beloved destination for those seeking the history, beauty, and spirit of icons. The museum was opened on February 27, 1986, through the initiative of many cultural figures and specialists who made it possible for the great treasure of icons and liturgical objects—kept archived for years following the ban on practicing the faith—to be exhibited to the public from an artistic and historical perspective.

Currently designated as a National Museum, this institution ranks among the most popular museums in Albania. Housed within the 18th-century Cathedral of the “Dormition of the Mother of God,” it stands as a prominent symbol of the country’s cultural heritage and a proud guardian of Berat’s valuable historical and religious treasures. /j.p/sm/
