Praia, July 4, 2025 (Lusa) - New flights will connect Lisbon and Porto to Cape Verde's capital, Praia, as well as the islands of São Vicente and Boa Vista, from October, according to the sales service available on the Internet.
A series of new flight connections to Europe has boosted tourism, especially on the island of Sal, and Easyjet is offering more connections from Thursday, adding three more islands to the archipelago.
In addition to boosting tourism, the driving force behind the country's economy, the increase in connections enhances the population's travel options, which are closely linked to emigration, particularly from the island of Santiago, where half of the archipelago's 500,000 inhabitants reside.
The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, today welcomed the announcement of the new flights with a message on the Internet, saying that the announcement is the result of "the government's proactive action to attract the “low cost” airline, with an impact on increased connectivity, tourism and Cape Verdeans in general, in the country and in the diaspora".
Cabo Verde Tradeinvest, the state investment promotion agency, also reacted, pointing to the announcement as "a boost for tourism, but also more opportunities to attract investment, boost local economies and strengthen ties with the diaspora and the European market".
