Lisbon, June 28, 2025 (Lusa) - The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) placed seven districts on the mainland on red alert between today and Tuesday as the ongoing heatwave affects the country.
According to the IPMA, the remaining districts will be on orange alert (the second most serious) and yellow alert, varying between today and Tuesday.
The districts on red alert are Lisbon, Setúbal, Santarém, Évora, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre.
The country is also at high risk of fire, so authorities prohibit bonfires and the use of agricultural machinery, and they also monitor possible dry storms with lightning.
Authorities advise the population to drink plenty of water, use sunscreen and choose cooler environments.
