Lisbon, June 26, 2025 (Lusa) - On Thursday, the PSD, CDS, Chega, PS and IL supported the continued operation of large retail outlets on Sundays and public holidays and maintained their opening hours until 10 p.m.

Livre, Bloco de Esquerda and PCP were in favour of these initiatives, while PAN, maintaining a reserved stance, said it was “high time” to review the opening hours of commercial establishments.

A group of citizens submitted a proposal to change the opening hours of commercial establishments.

More than 23,000 people have signed this proposal, which provides for the closure of shops on Sundays and public holidays and limits their opening hours until 10 p.m.

The Left Bloc presented a bill that also aims to close large commercial establishments on Sundays and public holidays.

The bill contains an exception for cinemas and restaurants.
