The 2nd International Conference on the Safety of Journalists, organised by the International Training Center for the Safety of Journalists and Media Professionals (ICSJ), was focused on the the role of the Center as a central body for research, education and the development of synergies for the protection of journalists.
The conference was held in collaboration and under the scientific responsibility of the Peace Journalism Laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The conference highlighted the need for an institutional and scientific body that would serve as a point of reference for all of the above, at a time when press freedom and the safety of journalists - both in the physical and digital space - are being tested internationally.
The conference was a meeting place and dialogue between representatives of important international organisations, journalists from the domestic and international arena, as well as scientists from universities and research institutions.
The participation of both experienced professionals and young journalists underlined the intergenerational importance of the issue and the need to strengthen safety education from the first steps of the professional career of media professionals.
