Lisbon, May 30, 2025 (Lusa) - The year-on-year inflation rate rose to 2.3% in May, 0.2 percentage points higher than in the previous month, according to the flash estimate released by Statistics Portugal (INE), on Friday.
The core inflation indicator, which excludes products with more volatile prices, such as unprocessed food and energy, also rose by 2.3% in May, up from 2.1% in the previous month.
The variation in the index for energy products increased to 0.1% (-0.1% in April 2025), while the variation in the index for unprocessed food products increased to 4.1% (3.3% in the previous month).
The flash estimate released today by the national statistics authority also indicates that, compared to the previous month, the CPI (consumer price index) rose by 0.4% (0.7% in April and 0.2% in May 2024).
Over the last 12 months, the INE estimate is for a variation of 2.4%, identical to that recorded in the previous month.
The Portuguese HICP (harmonised index of consumer prices) is estimated to have recorded a year-on-year variation of 1.7% (2.1% in the previous month).
The final data for the CPI for May 2025 will be published by INE on 12 June.
