Massimiliano Allegri is close to returning to coach his former club AC Milan, sources said on Thursday.
New sporting director Igli Tare has identified the 57-year-old Tuscan as the coach to revive Milan's fortunes after a disappointing season, first under Paulo Fonseca and then with Sérgio Conceição on the bench.
The club and Allegri have reached an agreement for a three-year deal with a salary of around five million euros a season, but the final details have yet to be settled, the sources said.
Allegri won the 2010-11 Serie A title with Milan during a four-year stint in charge.
He then won five league titles and five Italian Cups and reached two Champions League finals during two spells with Juventus.
