Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Altice Portugal revenues up 2.4% in Q1 to €697M

Lisbon, May 27, 2025 (Lusa) - Altice Portugal's revenues reached €697 million in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 2.4%, despite the reduction in revenues recorded at Altice Labs, Meo's owner announced on Tuesday.

"Revenues increased by 2.4% compared to the same period last year, despite the reduction in revenues recorded at Altice Labs," Altice Portugal said in a statement.

Excluding Altice Labs' performance, "revenue growth accelerated to 7.0% compared to the same period last year, benefiting from increases of 8.4% in the Consumer Segment, mainly supported by the energy business, and 5.3% in the Business Services Segment," explained Meo's owner.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) totalled €244 million in the first quarter, "a reduction of 5.6% compared to the same period last year".

The company added that if Altice Labs' performance was excluded, "EBITDA fell by 1.4% year-on-year despite the aforementioned revenue growth, as there were increases in direct and commercial costs associated with the growth of the Energy customer base, as well as the seasonality of these costs".

Investment amounted to €100 million between January and March, "a growth of 1.3% compared to the same period last year".

This increase reflects the company's ambition for the future in a sector facing crucial challenges, such as technological upgrading, security, expansion and improvement in the quality of connectivity, Altice Portugal said.

In the quarter under review, the total RGU [revenue-generating units] base for fixed and mobile services amounted to around 14 million, and the total number of unique customers in the Consumer Segment totalled 1.7 million.

Total fixed services increased by 0.8% year-on-year to 6 million, and the customer base for subscription television and connectivity services grew by 1.8% and 2.2%, respectively, both remaining at 1.9 million.

Altice Portugal reported that the postpaid mobile customer base totalled 5.3 million, driven by convergence, growing 0.4% (+22,000 customers) in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the fourth quarter of 2024.

At the end of March, Altice Portugal had 6.6 million homes with fibre optics and 5G network coverage of 96.82% of the population and 99.98% on the 4G network.

"Around 89% of the Consumer Customer base in the Fixed Business has fibre optic technology as its base technology," said the owner of Meo.

Revenues from the Consumer Segment rose 8.4% to €374 million, with service revenues increasing 9.1%, supported by record churn levels, growth in the fibre and postpaid mobile customer base and the additional and very positive contribution from Meo Energia.

The energy business continued to consolidate its role as a strategic pillar of the Altice Portugal ecosystem, and innovative tariff plans and combined telecommunications and energy offers represent synergistic benefits that reinforce Meo Energia's differentiation in the market, driving rapid customer acquisition," explains the operator.

Revenues from the Business Services Segment rose 5.3% (excluding Altice Labs) to €323 million.

"Also noteworthy is the positive performance of the wholesale business, which grew, driven by higher domestic traffic volumes associated with television tenders and infrastructure leasing, namely ducts, poles and technical spaces, as well as the leasing of international capacity to other operators," the company said.
